Five overseas cricketers will play in First XI in BPL’5
There was a lot of uncertainties in the past few days regarding the maximum number of foreign players in playing XI but everything has become clear after the Bangladesh Premier League Governing Council’s (BPL GC) meeting today.
In today’s meeting, it has been also decided that the 5th season of BPL will be started from 2nd November and the inauguration ceremony will be held on 31st October.
BPL GC member secretary, Ismail Haider Mollik said few days ago that there were not a lot of quality players in Bangladesh and so they were thinking to allow five foreign cricketers in playing XI.
His statement created a lot of controversies among the cricketing society of Bangladesh. Many current and former players opposed this decision.
However, nothing worked successfully and in today’s meeting it has been decided that all the 8 participating teams will be allowed to play 5 overseas players in first XI.
The meeting has been held in head office of Acme in Kallyanpur today and Ismal Haider Mollik said there, “5 of the 8 franchises have wanted to have five overseas cricketer in playing XI and so we have decided to allow this new rule.”
No other franchise based tournament around the world has allowed 5 overseas cricketers in playing XI. This decision may be helpful for increasing the market value of BPL but it will harm the local players too.
