The country’s biggest franchise-based cricket tournament Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which added a new intensity to Bangladesh cricket, is all set to be started with the new features. If the reports are to believe, there will be new teams and grounds in the next edition of the BPL.

In the first season of the money-spinning tournament back in the year 2012 participated six divisional teams — Dhaka, Chittagong, Barisal, Khulna, Sylhet and Rajshahi. In the next season, one more team from another division Rangpur was added.

However, in the last season of the BPL in November last year, only six teams took part. While Comilla was a new team to join the party, two previous teams from Khulna and Rajshahi were ruled out of the event.

But now the BPL managing committee is mulling to add to more teams in the forthcoming season of the tournament that is due to roll onto the ground from November 6, just five days after the end of the schedule bilateral series against England at home turf. In that case, the teams from Khulna and Rajshahi are expected to be brought back in the fourth season, which already promises to be bigger and better than the previous editions.

On the other hand, the organisers are also in talks to arrange some matches of the next season in another new host city. It can be noted that some matches of the previous BPL were held in Chittagong and Khulna beside Dhaka.

“The number of teams and grounds in the BPL-4 will be increased. We had got a good response from all. Finally we could not increase the number of teams. Those who showed their keen interest we want to give them a chance to take part in the gala tournament,” said Afzalur Rahman Sinha, chairman of the BPL governing council.

Sinha then expressed his optimism that the ever rising fear of terror attacks in the country ever since what happened in a cafe in Gulshan earlier this month will not put any negative effect on their way to hosting a grand event like BPL on home soil amidst security concerns. He also added that they will host the BPL-4 on November in a bid to rope in the good foreign cricketers.

“The board has taken so many security measures in the wake of the recent terror attacks of late. BCB is poised to give their all-out efforts for its successful implementation. Nobody sits in idle hosting their works across the globe. The government has taken various steps to curb the terrorist’s attack. Hopefully the fourth edition will roll onto the ground in due time,” Sinha said.
