Gala ceremony to mark opening of BPL today

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) governing body is all set to present a spectacular opening ceremony to create hype and make the inaugural edition of the tournament a successful. The opening ceremony of BPL will be held on Thursday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

The money-spinning event which Bangladesh will organise for the first time will be staged with calisthenics mixed with dance, drama, music and laser show that is expected to make the whole nation spellbound.

BPL governing body chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu said there will be nothing lacking in the amazing opening show. It will be started with Ekushey song to mark the Bangali’s Language Movement and end with a shiny and blitzkrieg laser show and fireworks.

he three-hour long opening ceremony will be marked by great fanfare and enthusiasm, Lipu added. A spectacular cultural show by famous singers, dancers and actresses of Bangladesh and India are expected to grip the audience where arguably Indian actress Bipasa Basu will be the main attraction.

The show is expected to begin at 6.30 pm with lighting the floodlight on. Thereafter the Ekushey song and act will be played to mark the month of February.

The six teams of the BPL then entered the ground with the tune of their theme song.

Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman, who is expected to arrive in 7.00 am will declare the opening of the ceremony. Afterwards, the cultural show and other activities will be started.

“I hope the opening ceremony will be grand one. We tried our best to make the opening ceremony memorable one,” said Lipu.

The BPL got two partners on Wednesday in Bangladesh Tourism Board and Aamra Network on the eve of its opening ceremony.

While the tourism board will utilise the BPL to attract the foreign people to visit in Bangladesh’s beautiful places, Aamra network will provide the internet service.

Bangladesh Tourism Board however provided Tk. 2.50 crore to the BPL. They will show the advertisement during the starting and break of the game.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Faruk Khan was present as chief guest. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president AHM Mustafa Kamal MP, Tourism Board CEO Alim Uddin Ahmed, BPL Governing Body Chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, secretary Sirajuddin Alamgir and Game On Management Director Anjan Ganguly were present during the signing ceremony of Tourism Board and BPL.

Anjan Ganguly and Alim Uddin Ahmed signed the paper on behalf of their respective companies.

Faruk Khan said, “We’ll utilise the platform of BPL to attract the foreign people to visit the beautiful places of Bangladesh.”

“We’ll run the programme of parjatan during the starting and break of the game.”

Faruk Khan also assured that they would help BCB to build a stadium in Cox’s Bazar.

“I got a master plan of Cox’s Bazar some days ago where it was said that an International Stadium will be set up in Cox’s Bazar. We’ll try our best to help BCB.”

BCB president Mustafa Kamal also said, “Government assured us that they would help us to get a suitable place in Cox’s Bazar. BCB will build the stadium with their own finance.”

Meanwhile, Aamra Network will provide the internet service during the BPL.

In this regard, a signing ceremony was held at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Aamra Network Managing Director Syed Farhad Ahmed and Game On CEO Zakaria Jaffri signed the paper on behalf of their respective companies.
