USA to host Bangladesh-India-West Indies tri-series in August?
Bangladesh national cricket team may make their first ever official foray into American soil, as there is slight possibility of a T20I tri-series being staged in the USA later this year. Apart from Bangladesh, the tri-series is likely to include India and West Indies at the other two teams, a news report in the Indian Express revealed on Wednesday. To be noted, India are playing West Indies at the moment in a four-match Test series in the Caribbean.
According to the reports appearing in the Indian media, MS Dhoni and Co are set to play a short T20I series against the West Indies in Florida in late August, after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series on August 22. Sources, however, indicated it’s not clear whether it will end up being a bilateral series, with a T20I tri-series involving Bangladesh being the other alternative.
“West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) officials will be meeting in Florida to sort it out. We are just waiting for the green signal. It’s amber already, you can say. The matches will likely be played over the last weekend of August. It will be peak summer in Florida, and it will be a spectacle. However, there is slight chance of Bangladesh being invited as the third team for a tri-series,” the source said.
Reports further suggest that the probable tri-series is said to be a compensation for the losses suffered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the West Indies cricket board pulled out of a series midway in 2014. The Indian board is likely to take away a major revenue share from this short series.
