BCB releases players list for BPL auction on Thursday
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) governing council on Tuesday released the list of local and foreign players who will put on players’ auction to be held on Thursday at a local hotel in the city. A total of 247 players including 134 foreign players and 113 local players, splitting into four categories, will be auctioned. 16 overseas players and 4 local players were included in the prestigious golden categories who would have a base price of US$ 75,000. The franchises however could not exceed the mark of US$ 150,000 for acquiring the players. If more than one franchise put the last amount for any players, lottery would decide who could rope in him.
Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Ryad are the four from local players to be in the golden categories while Shahid Afridi, Imran Nazir and Saeed Ajmal from Pakistan, England’s Luke Wright, Owais Shah and Dimitri Mascarenhas and Tino Best, Sunil Naraine, Dwayne Bravo, Keiran Pollard, Andre Russel, Fidel Edwards from West Indies, South Africa’s Alphanso Thomas from Australia’s Shaun Tait, Dirk Nannes and Brad Hodge were listed in the golden categories as overseas players’.
The notable missing from the foreign players’ list was Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels. While Gayle was reportedly injured, Samuels will be busy with preparation for the Australia tour.
The floor price of the foreign A-category players will be US$ 50,000 and highest US$75,000. Category-B will be defined from US$30,000 to 50,000, while “C” will be estimated from US$15,000 to 30,000.
A total of 17 foreign players got the category A that included the likes of Umar Gul, Abdul Razzaq, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Sami, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal and Azhar Mahmood from Pakistan, England’s Ravi Bopara, Micheal Lumb and Phil Mustard, Dwayne Smith and Shivnarine Chanderpaul from West Indies.
Category-B included 27 while 79 players found them in category-C from the foreign players.
For local players, the floor price ranging from US$ 45,000 to US$ 30,000 for A-category while B-category would have base prices ranging from US$ 30,000 to US$ 20,000 and C-category would have floor prices ranging from US$ 20,000 to US$ 10,000.
A total of seven local players were in Category-A as Mashrafe Bin Mortoza, Ashraful, Abdur Razzak, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Nasir Hossain, Shohag Gazi and Ziaur Rahman were drafted into this category.
