The governing council for the forthcoming third edition of country’s biggest cricketing extravaganza Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) earlier took decision of not putting the six icons on auction. But now it is likely to back out the decision, after five franchisees, out of six, chased vigorously for world’s number one all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

According to a report published in The Independent, it was learnt that only Comilla Victorians wanted Mashrafe Bin Mortaza as their icon while the other five franchisees requested the governing council to name Shakib, who had played for Khulna Royal Bengals and Dhaka Gladiators in the first and second edition of BPL respectively, as their icon, leaving them in a state of confusion.

And now a source reveals that in the wake of the situation, the BPL governing council might put them on auction, set to be held on October 26. However it is the authority of the BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon, who returned home from ICC meeting in Dubai yesterday night, to take the final decision. Sources also added that the BCB boss might clear the air regarding this today.

Shakib, the best ranked all-rouder in all three format of the game, is the only Bangladeshi player to feature in all major domestic T20 tournament across the world including the high profile IPL and Big Bash tournament. It is evident that his skill and experience in this version was the key reason behind his high demand amongst the five franchisees Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, Rangpur and Sylhet.

Earlier it was informed by the BPL governing council secretary IH Mallick that they would talk to the franchisees to know which players they want as the icon. It is learnt according to the earlier decision it was decided that the Khulna lads Shakib Al Hasan and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will be the icon of Dhaka Dynamites and Comilla Victorians respectively while Tamim Iqbal will belong to his home team Chittagong Vikings, Mushfiqur Rahim will go to Sylhet Burners, Mahmudullah Riyad for Barisal Bulls and Nasir Hossain in Rangpur Riders.
