Destiny becomes BPL’s title sponsor
The title sponsor of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Twenty20 Cricket Tournament was announced at a local hotel in the city on Saturday.
Destiny Group was the highest bidding company to achieve the rights of the title sponsor from the Indian event management company Game On Sports Management with an amount of Tk. 7.50 crore. In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Game On Sports Management and Destiny Group on Saturday.
Anjan Ganguly, director of the Game on Sports Management Company and Rofiqul Amin, chairman of the Destiny Group, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
The chairman of the Destiny Group handed over the cheque of Tk. 7.50 crore during the signing agreement ceremony.
Rofiqul Amin said after signing agreement that, “We feel proud of becoming a part of the forthcoming biggest domestic flagship event in the country-BPL. At the same time we are grateful to saturate ourselves for the first time with the cricket which is earned name and fame for the country from international arena.”
“We have just started our journey and made a contract with the official sponsorship company with handsome money only for the first year.”
“It is not a scanty amount for the title sponsor of the tournament. Even it would not be right to compare with the title sponsorship and the ticket selling and distribution sponsorship of the meet,” Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, member secretary of BPL governing body and director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board replied to a query.
Enayetur Rahman Bappi, managing director of the Bangladesh awaiting television channel ‘Virgo Media Channel-9’ said, “We signed contract with the international television channel ESPN. ESPN, who will live broadcast of all the matches from the two venues -Dhaka and Chittagong- for the viewers outside the country. Meanwhile we got a huge response from the USA, UK and Pakistan.”
“The production expenditures of all the matches will bear ESPN as per the rules,” the managing director of the Channel-9 said while answering to a query.
Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, CEO of the Boishakhi Television and Gofranul Haque, vice-chairman of the Destiny Group were also present on the occasion.
However, Game On Sports Management made a contract with BPL for six years with a staggering amount of $44.33 million on December 22, 2011. As per the rules of the BPL, all the contracts regarding BPL will be done with the Game On Sports Management Company from now.
